Happy Retirement Tom Summers
It's not goodbye, it's see you later!
What a year 2016 was for SERVPRO of Hanover, Goochland & Caroline! We welcomed some new faces to our team, celebrated 20 years in business, and we said goodbye to some hardworking men.
With that being said, we have to highlight a top notch gentlemen who was with SERVPRO of Hanover, Goochland & Caroline for 18 years. Tom Summers started his journey with David and Kathie in 1998 and watched as the company grew into what it is today. In 1998, there were 5 employees at SERVPRO of Hanover, Goochland & Caroline and in 2016 and now there are 24 employees. Tom has seen everything that one could see working in this business. He was always ready to work and always worked hard. Tom was our go to guy for carpet cleanings, upholstery cleanings and fire cleanings. Of course, if we needed a hand with water damages, he was always there to help. You could always count on Tom! On December 28, 2016, Tom officially began a new life. A life of relaxation, waking up when he feels like it and a life of new adventures. Now Tom will get to enjoy his days with his wife, his new house, doing yardwork, taking care of his cats and playing golf when the weather warms up.
Tom will be missed greatly. The SERVPRO of Hanover, Goochland & Caroline family will miss his smile, his giving heart, his “hat flipping”, his laugh and his dedication to this company.
Happy Retirement Tom Summers!
Margie always gives service with a smile!
This week in our Employee Spotlight, we will be introducing Margie. Margie has been with the SERVPRO of Hanover, Goochland & Caroline team for 9 years. She is our go to gal! Whenever there is something the office staff needs or the crews need, Margie always has it in her “hidden” stash. She is also our chef extraordinaire and will cook some of the most amazing dishes … YUM!
Margie’s SERVPRO life consists of handling homebuilders that we work with in the area in addition to the local counties and all of our self-pay mold jobs. Through the years of working with mold jobs, she has learned how to translate Malvern’s handwriting, resulting in Margie being fluent in “Malvernese”. Margie holds our SERVPRO Crew Training certification and loves that there is never a dull moment here at work!
When Margie is not working hard at work, she is busy spending time with her husband and running her kids to and from their sports commitments! Margie has 2 kids, Xavier who is 14 and Malia who is 12. Margie spends most of her weekends’ at softball games and tournaments with Malia or Xavier’s basketball games.
SERVPRO of Hanover, Goochland & Caroline is very lucky to have Margie. She is incredibly dedicated and gives top notch customer service to all of our customers. Thank you for all your hard work Margie!
Blow out candles when you leave the room or go to bed. Avoid the use of candles in the bedroom and other areas where people may fall asleep.
Candles may be pretty to look at but they are a cause of home fires - and home fire deaths. Remember, a candle is an open flame, which means that it can easily ignite anything that can burn.
* December is the peak time of year for home candle fires.
* Roughly one-third of home candle fires start in the bedroom.
* More than half of all candle fires start when things that can burn are too close to the candle!
Candles and Kids:
* Never leave a child alone in a room with a burning candle.
* Keep matches and lighters up high and out of children's reach.
Candles are pretty and smell good, but think about using flameless candles, they look and smell like the real thing!
If something should happen, please don't hesitate to call SERVPRO of Hanover, Goochland & Caroline at 804-730-6788 for assistance. We will make it like it never even happened!
"Mait the Great" is always working hard for our customers!
This week in our Employee Spotlight, we will be introducing a newer employee to the SERVPRO of Hanover, Goochland & Caroline team. Maitland Wright started with SERVPRO of Hanover, Goochland & Caroline over a year ago. Maitland is one of our technicians who works on water damages, move outs, move backs, and mold jobs with each Crew Chief daily. Every day is different, but Maitland’s favorite thing about his job is seeing jobs come together from start to finish. Each job is an adventure, so seeing different types of jobs unfold and finish keeps things exciting for Maitland.
“Mait the Great” as the crew in the back call him, enjoys spending his free time with his family, and helping out with his little brother’s football team. He also spends a lot of time in the gym working out and being a “bench warrior”. All the gym time may explain Maitland’s super hero name, “The Dip King”. His super power is the ability to lift multiple people up at once. Arm dips give you good arm muscles! Finally, something you may not know about Maitland is that he has 5 younger siblings. I bet Christmas time is fun at Maitland’s house!
We are glad to have Maitland as a part of our SERVPRO of Hanover, Goochland & Caroline family!
Check out how much fun we had at the event on September 9, 2016!

Jesse is one of our most versatile employees and our "go to" guy.
The moment you’ve been waiting for, the introduction of Jesse Black! Jesse has been with SERVPRO for 18 years. Jesse started out as a technician helping other Crew Chiefs perform water damages and worked his way up to Crew Chief. He is certified in water damage restoration, mold remediation, fire cleaning, carpet and upholstery cleaning and advanced structural drying. Jesse is one of our most versatile "go to" employees. If we need help with a duct cleaning, carpet cleaning, water mitigation or moving furniture; we can always count on Jesse to step up to the plate and lead his crew. One of Jesse’s favorite things about his job is the comradery between everyone at SERVPRO of Hanover, Goochland & Caroline.
In Jesse’s free time he enjoys playing golf. The best round of golf he has shot was an 84. He also is very involved with his stepson Drew, and when he isn’t working or playing golf he is chasing around his 3 year old son, Aiden. Jesse is also a newlywed, and recently married his long-time love Jennifer on March 26, 2016. Something you may not know about Jesse is that he has a small “farm” and has chickens, dogs, and a guinea pig.

"Are you READY for whatever happens?"
Janet and her husband at the Richmond Dragway banquet a few years ago.
This week we are featuring our Crew Chief, Janet Sams. Janet has been with SERVPRO of Hanover, Goochland & Caroline for 13 years, specializing in fire cleaning, pack outs and post cleaning. Janet has a keen eye, she is hard-working and is incredibly detail orientated which are just a few of the qualities that make her a top-notch Crew Chief. Janet currently holds certifications as a fire restoration technician, water damage restoration technician and odor control technician. One of Janet’s favorite things about her job is meeting new people and assisting homeowners during a difficult time. When Janet is sent to a job, she is usually helping homeowner’s through a very challenging time. Fire damage can be very devastating, but Janet is very compassionate which is why all our homeowner’s appreciate her knowledge and dedication.
During Janet’s free time, she likes to spend as much time as she can with her 2 children; Junior and Amy; and her 3 granddaughters, Alysa, Jaslynn and her newest addition Lily. But wait there is more … Janet also enjoys drag racing with her husband and friends at the Richmond Dragway.
Something you may not know about Janet is that she and her husband recently purchased a RV and went on a cross country trip to Texas. She hopes to take more trips this year.
Janet plays a crucial role in our day to day operations. Her knowledge and experience is very important to our success, and we are happy that she is part of our SERVPRO of Hanover, Goochland & Caroline family!
SERVPRO of Hanover, Goochland and Caroline will "make it like it never even happened!"
Let me share some history about SERVPRO of Hanover, Goochland & Caroline. In 1996, David and Kathie Butler decided to take a leap of faith to start what is now SERVPRO of Hanover, Goochland & Caroline. What started out in a 1,5ooSF warehouse/office space and 6 employees has now turned into 21,000SF and 25 employees. With the dedication and hard work that started this business, we were able to get the trust of many insurance companies because our quality of work and customer service is top notch!
Highly trained technicians! If you don’t believe me check out “Our Crew”. Follow this link, http://www.SERVPROhanovergoochlandcaroline.com/crew-photos, and read about all of our trusted technicians. We are constantly striving to educate our crew and keep them up-to-date with the newest techniques that are coming to the market. As manufactures of flooring companies, paint manufacturers and builders are coming out with new products, it is our job to stay educated with the best way to clean and how to care for them.
We work with your insurance! If you need help with a water damage or fire cleaning we will work with your insurance company through the entire process. Often times, we will need to reach out to your adjuster to get approval to do work outside of the traditional scope of work. There are times we will need to coordinate with your insurance company when your clothing or electronics need to be cleaned due to a smoke/fire damage. We will be there every step of the way and coordinate those things for you! If you have Nationwide, State Farm, Erie, Travelers, USAA, Safeco, Amica or Farm Bureau insurance just to name a few, call us! We have relationships with these companies and many others! Let us be the middle man!
Don’t forget, we are a locally owned and operated, 24-hour emergency service company that is available to you 365 days out of the year, because water damages and fires are never planned!
